About the event
This groundbreaking live documentary event combines a musical performance by the legendary Kronos Quartet with an immersive film experience that explores the contemporary classical group’s career, developed by directors/writers/editors Sam Green and Joe Bini. Green, who grew up in East Lansing and graduated from the University of Michigan, will narrate the piece live onstage as the quartet performs the score. Meanwhile, a rich blend of archival footage, photos and interviews with members of the group — as well as longtime collaborators like Philip Glass, Laurie Anderson, Terry Riley, Tanya Tagaq and Steve Reich — unspools on screen. Transcending the typical live music and film event, this collaboration quickly becomes a meditation on music itself – the act of listening to it closely, the experience of feeling it deeply, and the power that it has to change the world. Michigan premiere.
