About the film

The film tells the story behind one of Detroit’s great contributions to world culture: techno, the electronic-music phenomenon created by black artists in the 1980s that exploded across Europe, transformed dance music and blossomed into a multibillion-dollar industry. Techno brought people together on dancefloors across the world, but its original creators — Juan Atkins, Derrick May, Kevin Saunderson and others — still struggle for their rightful place in music history. This special rough-cut screening of “God Said Give ‘Em Drum Machines” will provide an early look at the still-uncompleted film.
